Day 3: 2014 Sweet Paul Holiday Countdown presented by Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day

I was invited to a friend's house for holiday dinner last year and my job was to bring the cranberry sauce. I really wanted to come up with something a bit different, so I created this recipe. It's sweet with just the right amount of tang and the thyme and walnuts make it special. It's so good, just perfect with roast turkey.

This cranberry sauce is inspired by the cranberry scent from Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day. Bright, shiny cranberries are tart and tangy—yet sprinkled with a little bit of something sweet. These round, red fruits bring a delightful pucker to holiday dishes.

makes 5 cups

You will need:

1 12 oz bag of fresh cranberries

1 cup finely chopped onion

1 cup sultanas or raisins

1 1/2 cup dried cranberries

1 1/2 cup dried cherries

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 cup light brown sugar

2 cups water

2 cups walnut halves

  1. n a large pot add cranberries, onion, sultanas, dried cranberries, cherries, thyme, sugar and water.
  2. Bring to a boil and let it simmer until almost all the liquid has reduced, about 1 hour. If the liquid boils in to fast just add a little more.
  3. While the cranberry sauce simmers toast the walnuts until golden in the oven at 360F.(160C)
  4. Let the relish cool off and mix in the walnuts just before serving, you want them to be be a good crunch in the relish.
