You will need:
13stick of butter, at room temperature
1 cup sugar

11⁄2 oz molasses 
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground ginger

1⁄2  teaspoon ground cardamom
1⁄2  teaspoon ground black pepper
1⁄2  tablespoon baking soda
3⁄4 cup water
3 cups flour

  1. Mix butter, sugar, and molasses.
  2. Add spices and baking soda, then water, and finally part of the flour.
  3. Mix well and then add in the rest of the flour.
  4. Let the dough sit overnight, plastic wrapped in the fridge.
